A birth worker business mentoring conversation at a table

You can be brilliant with women and still feel completely stumped when it comes to finding clients, explaining your work, or knowing what to say online.

This session is for the business bit. The part most birth workers avoid until they need bookings, money, and a clearer way to be found.

We are going to cover the basics that actually matter: client acquisition, messaging, values, simple SEO and networking.

Why this matters in birth work

Birth work does not behave like a normal online business. You do not have years to warm someone up. A woman might find you while she is already pregnant, already under pressure, and already trying to work out who she can trust.

Your business needs to be clear enough for the right people to understand quickly.

That does not mean shouting online, posting constantly, or pretending you are a marketing person. It means knowing what you offer, what you stand for, who you are speaking to, and how people can actually find you.

What we will cover

  • Client acquisition
Where clients actually come from in birth work, how people move from interest to booking, and why being good at the work is not enough if nobody knows how to choose you.
  • Messaging
How to explain what you do in plain English, write posts that say something specific, and stop sounding like every other doula bio on the internet.
  • Business values
How your values shape your offers, pricing, boundaries, content, client fit and decisions. Values are not decoration. They are how you stop making your business up from panic.
  • Basic SEO
What people search for, why location matters, what to put on your website, and how to make your work easier to find without becoming obsessed with keywords.
  • Networking
Who is worth building relationships with, how local referrals work, and how to talk about your work without sounding desperate or corporate.

This is for you if

  • You are a current WPCTS student
  • You have done births already, or you are preparing to take on clients
  • You want more clients but do not want to copy generic online business advice
  • Your message feels vague, woolly or too similar to everyone else’s
  • You want to understand the practical basics: finding people, being found, being clear, and building useful relationships

You will leave with

  • A clearer understanding of how clients find and choose birth workers
  • A better way to explain your work
  • Simple messaging prompts you can use straight away
  • A basic SEO checklist for your website or next page
  • A short list of useful people, places or organisations to connect with
  • A stronger sense of which business choices fit your values
